Two Reasons To Train Your Dog At Home

We all love our dogs, they are the best pet one could have. But we also love our dogs to behave and do as we tell them to stop them being naughty.

A naughty dog can be very stressful. Ripping up clothes, furniture, important mail that comes through your letterbox etc. Life can be much more easier when our dogs behave in the way we want them to.

Instead of coming home after a hard day at work to find your comfy slippers in shreds on the floor, how much nicer would it be if your dog greeted you by bringing your slippers to you? Home dog training means you will be able to experience that scenario.

Some people believe if a dog isn’t trained whilst it’s a puppy then it is too late. That’s simply not true. All dogs can be trained, whether a brand new pup, or a dog taken in as a stray.


What we have to remember is a dog has to learn our language just like we ourselves do. Using common every day words to order a dog whilst shouting is one of the biggest mistakes we make. If your dog is being naughty and you tell him to ‘come’, getting more louder every time you have to say it, only to them give him a smack on the bum when he does come, the dog will learn that if you are telling him to ‘come’ then that is a word that means he is about to get a smack.

But we then tell him to ‘come’ so he can eat his food. When he finaly plucks up the courage to come he then finds a tasty meal. This is confusion for the dog, he is now not sure whether ‘come’ means he has been naughty or whether it means he has been good and is getting rewarded. Simple mistakes like this can easily corrected with home dog training.

There are two reasons I believe home dog training is better than taking them to a school to be trained :

1, The cost involved. Money is getting tighter for all of us. Instead of having to find a weekly fee to pay someone to train your dog, home dog training can be done far cheaper and it will be just as easy for you to do it as opposed to a stranger.

2, I’m sure we all remember moments when we were at school where one of our classmates decided to be naughty in a lesson? Finding it funny, either ourself or another classmate most likely joined in. With someone else being naughty, or even a couple of others, it gave us a feeling of safety in numbers. It’s unreasonable to think there won’t be at least one dog at the training school who is a little bit more naughty than most. Just like back in our school days dogs like to have fun just as much as we did. Our dog can just as easily be led astray by this naughty dog, taking longer and more lessons for our dog to be trained, and of course taking more of our money. Home dog training eliminates this as it’s just you and your dog.

So lets elimiate the stress that a naughty dog brings and save ourselves money in the long run by doing it. No more flowers pulled out in the garden, no more furniture chewed up, no more mail in shreds and instead our beloved dog gretting us as we come home and bringing with him our slippers. Home dog training can work for you and your ‘best friend’.

The Smart Way Of Training Your Dog At Home

Are you well aware that prior to you enroll your dog in a dog training obedience classes it is essential that you first of all train your dog at the comforts of your own household? Dog training in your home should start out with toilet training. Choose an empty piece of land around your house or a specific corner of the backyard. You are required to have a specified area where the dog will be trained to avoid confusion. You would want to schedule the training to and whenever you can’t adhere to the schedule and so you must not expect the dog to stick to any of your command. Try to feed him food which wouldn’t disturb their GI tract. Ward off free feed as much as possible until the training is completed. To establish discipline in his behavior, schedule the bed time and wakening time.

Take into consideration that young puppies will require frequent nap times, make certain that your schedule can accommodate their need. And if during training in your home, the dog starts to make errors, determinedly but gently say “No” and take the dog straight to his toilet area. Don’t scream in horror at the dog nor even go after him. Always keep in mind that your attitude is among the most meaningful elements in house training your dog. Be patient, your dog doesn’t know what is wrong so it’s you that must dictate what should and what should not be done.

If your pet makes an error tell him “no” but do not punish your dog. Remember positive reinforcement works a lot more effectively when training your dog, than the old dog training school of using negative reinforcement. Punishing your dog or hitting your dog is part of negative reinforcement training and should be avoided at all times. Giving your dog a treat or talking sweet and kindly to your dog is part of positive reinforcement and it’s the type of training you should use with your dog.

Training Your Dog At Home- Information You’ll Need to Know

Are you considering training your dog at home? If so, then you need to be prepared with the right information. Many of us treat our pets as a member of the family. And just like any other family member, we can be very content with them or be angry with them. But regardless of what they do, they are part of the family. They may make us upset every once in a while, but we’d never EVER consider giving that family member up.

So what is a person to do if you’re dog is frequently exhibiting problem behaviors? Maybe every other week he is chewing up your brand new shoes. Or maybe he always gets aggressive any time you pass by another dog on your daily walk. Maybe he barks at everything that makes the slightest noise, and you are getting complaints from your neighbors because he won’t stay quiet. What are you to do to make the both of you have a stress free relationship?

You know the dog needs some training that works. You’ve tried everything under the sun to try and train him and nothing has worked. But did you know you can probably do this yourself? Instead of using a professional, you may consider training your dog at home. All you need is the proper information, which boils down to understanding why a dog reacts the way he does to exhibit these problem behaviors.

If you are considering home training your dog, there are a number of guidelines that should be followed in order to make your training successful. Some of them are:

Ensure the training is away from distractions such as cars on busy streets, other dogs, crowds of people and noises such as radios

Make sure you gather any needed materials before you begin the training session such as treats, toys, leash, etc. This will ensure less confusion for your dog and continuity in the training

Make sure training is for short periods only as dogs can only take in so much at a time

Be repetitive. For example, don’t change the way you are trying to teach your dog how to heel. If you stay with the same method there will be less chance of the dog getting confused

You must be patient! Every dog is different, just like people. Each one will take different times to learn each new exercise

Never strike or yell at your dog! This will hinder any progress because your dog will lose concentration and be harder to train, as he will be frightened

Don’t give your dog the same old, boring dry, dog biscuit as a reward when training. Ensure it’s something he truly enjoys. Also make sure that the treats are given in small pieces so he won’t get full, which would cause him to lose interest in the training.
